Basingstoke is situated in North East Hampshire. The town has expanded rapidly over recent years, the first big build took place in the 1960’s to accommodate the London overspill, since then many new housing estates have been built, including a major refurbishment of Basingstoke train station and town centre, now known as Festival Place.

There are lots of surrounding villages on the outskirts of Basingstoke such as Old Basing, Oakley, Overton, Whitchurch, Bramley, Tadley, Hook and Hartley Whintney.

The train station is very popular for commuters as the train line forms part of the main London Waterloo line, with easy access to Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham and many other popular routes.

Festival Place is a great place to visit with its large department stores, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and BHS, various popular shopping brands, coffee shops, hair salons and supermarkets. Why not grab a bite to eat at Festival Square where you will find such restaurants as Coal, Pizza Express, Gourmet Burger, Nandos, ASK and many more. There are also several Pubs and Bars and a Luxury Cinema.

Family days out are popular in the town with many tourists visiting to take advantage of what’s on offer. There’s Eastrop Park situated a short walk from Festival Place which Is home to a large play area, outdoor swimming pool and a boating lake, JJ’S World of Fun is a great indoor soft play centre and there is also Basingstoke Leisure Park; here you can find Bowlplex for Bowling, Planet Ice for Ice Skating amongst plenty of restaurants, pubs, yet another cinema complex, a Bingo Hall and the very popular Aqua Drome, the indoor swim centre with flumes, Lazy River, a Gym and Sauna. The Basingstoke museum ‘Milestones’ takes you on a historical journey of Basingstoke through the ages. There is also talk of an Indoor Ski Centre with Sky Diving facilities being built in the town in the near future, which would really complete the huge range of activities Basingstoke already has to offer.

There are many gyms in the town, The Aqua Drome, The Sports Centre based in Festival Place and Beech Down, all these are three large gyms with a wide variety of fitness classes from Yoga through to Zumba. There are swimming pools, saunas and jacuzzi facilities to take advantage of at the gyms, not to mention the Crèche facilities to keep the little ones amused while you’re relaxing, or working out!

Why not visit the Roman ruins and the remains of Basing House which was once know as England’s largest Manor House, these are also popular dog walking routes along with the Crabtree plantation a short distance from the M3.
